In the Weeds
36 x 36 in | Acrylic on canvas
From The Conversation series
This painting lives in the thick of it.
Dense, directional strokes move across the surface in overlapping currents—blues, charcoals, violets, and muted light pushing against one another. There is no single focal point, no easy exit. The eye wanders, slows, doubles back. Just like real conversations when things get complicated.
In the Weeds speaks to moments when clarity dissolves—when you’re too close to the problem to see its edges. The gestures feel almost overgrown, as if thoughts have layered themselves faster than they could be resolved. What emerges is not chaos, but persistence.
As part of The Conversation series, this work represents the emotional middle: after the initial exchange, before resolution. It holds the weight of nuance, miscommunication, and the effort required to stay present when it would be easier to disengage.
Paint is applied thickly, each mark distinct yet dependent on the others. Together, they create a surface that feels alive—bristling, shifting, refusing stillness. The handmade frame contains the energy, but cannot tame it.
This piece is about staying.
About listening when it’s uncomfortable.
About finding your footing while surrounded by noise.
